Tessera qualifies for Silverstone's Innovation Building
Etch, one of Tessera’s most distinctive and versatile heavy contract carpet tile designs has been used at the prestigious Silverstone Innovation Centre, a £4.2 million building designed to provide accommodation for new businesses in the motorsport industry, at the home of the British Formula One Grand Prix.
Cube Design of Ringwood in Hampshire were lead consultant architects on the project, a joint venture between track owner, the British Racing Drivers' Club, and the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA).
Jane Lock-Smith, Senior Architect responsible for the interior and exterior design of the hi-tech three-storey building, specified Etch, a solid colour cut and loop pile tile, manufactured from 100% solution dyed Antron fibre, with Teflon carpet protection. She wanted a strong ‘corporate’ colourway and selected Air from the nineteen standard colour options.
Jane said: “This particular carpet tile with its subtle textured design was the perfect complement to the pristine white walls and exposed steel and glass features in this design scheme. Our aim was to create a minimalist, uncluttered and airy environment, conducive for the nurturing of emerging young businesses. The carpet tiles provide colour and warmth, and, although modular with a cut and loop pile construction, they actually provide the appearance of a seamless cut pile carpet”.
Jane also praised Tessera for its customer service: “Having a good product is only part of the story. This was a fast track project and we needed our suppliers to help us deliver on schedule. We worked very closely with the Sales Manager Dee Garrett who was extremely helpful and we had very prompt service from Tessera’s Lancashire HQ”.
In total 2600m2 of Etch carpet tiles were fitted in the building by Pickard Interiors Ltd of Bicester.
