Shopping centres have to face the issue of providing a clean and safe environment for the public and Scotland’s newest shopping centre destination is no exception. With an anticipated weekly footfall of 500,000, Silverburn shopping centre in Glasgow has installed over 640m2 of Nuway Tuftiguard entrance system from Bonar Floors to cope with walked-in dirt and moisture.

 

Positioned within the top five retail locations in Scotland, Silverburn is set to be the first in a new generation of regional shopping destinations. The 950,000sq ft retail and leisure centre offers a vibrant shopping experience,with flagship stores from major high street names.

 

When it came to selecting the entrance system to deal with the influx of shoppers, Nuway Tuftiguard Classic matting was specified by the architects, Building Design Partnership in Glasgow, because of its proven durability and wearing properties in heavy use areas. At Silverburn shopping centre, the entrance system has been fitted by Mat Services at a number of entrances including the spectacular, stylish atrium foyer.

 

Colin Green, Area Sales Manager from Bonar Floors comments: “Choosing the right flooring for a public space like a shopping centre is crucial, as there are a number of issues to be addressed including adherence to the Disability Discrimination Act and health and safety. The management has a duty of care to ensure that shoppers can come into and exit the centre safely and easily, which means the entrance matting has to perform multiple functions. It has to be aesthetically pleasing so that it complements the surrounding, offer excellent ease of cleaning and maintenance, and deal with soiling and moisture.”

 

 

Nuway Tuftiguard Classic entrance system is a rigid, double-sided, reversible matting which carries a 15 year guarantee. Designed for the most demanding heavy traffic entrance areas, which are subject to high levels of pedestrian footfall and wheeled traffic, Tuftiguard can handle extreme levels of soiling and will deliver high performance even when minimal cleaning regimes are in place.

 

Part of the Nuway entrance system range, each Tuftiguard matt is 100 per cent bespoke to the application, made to order depending on size, shape and depth of matwell. Other options include a choice of PVC, aluminium or brass scraper bars and the option of nine different shades of wiper strips, to reflect any interior colour scheme. In addition, Nuway mats can be also be supplied with logos, crests and messages.
