Bonar Floors awarded BREEAM

 

Bonar Floors has been granted BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certification following testing on products from its Tessera carpet tiles and Flotex collections, reinforcing the company’s commitment to offering high performance flooring solutions.

 

The certification makes Tessera the first carpet tile manufacturer to offer a BRE certified wool/nylon range with its Merino wool collection. In addition, Flotex is the only flocked floor covering to be granted BRE certification.

 

This is the first stage of Bonar Floors’ ongoing plan to achieve BREEAM across its entire flooring ranges and the Westbond, Coral and Nuway brands are currently undergoing assessment.

 

Mark Bauer, Bonar Floors’ Environmental and Compliance manager, comments: “Achieving BREEAM is part of our dedication to improving our environmental credentials, while producing high performance products that offer a long lifecycle. While we have achieved accreditation for some of our best-selling ranges, we will also be looking to submit new products such as Flotex High Definition on a rolling basis adhering to BRE’s requirement to have 12 months' manufacturing data before assessment. We’re also working closely with the testing agency to ensure that we keep abreast of the forthcoming changes to the scheme expected later this year.”

 

As well as gaining BREEAM, Bonar Floors has also made improvements in reducing its overall environmental impact. Investment has been made which gives the company the capability to incorporate post-production waste into carpet tiles and process alternative raw materials to bitumen. Landfill waste from carpet tiles has been reduced due to a new cutting method and the company constantly assesses its raw materials to find ways to incorporate recycled or sustainable yarns in its designs.
